Rich Gwilliam's digital shed
Javascript is versatile and ubiquitous these days; but it can be a bit ugly in its base form. JQuery changes those ham-fisted nested functions into elegant, easily understandable chained calls.
If that was all it did it'd be enough but it also provides functionality for some delightful visual effects, and is a hub for thousands of open-source applications.
It's been softening the edges of Javascript for me (literally in a lot of cases before the advent of the border-radius element) for many years and I'm very familiar with it.
I've been using Jquery since Nov 2008 (17 years).
